In developed countries, the relationship between law and
politics and the impact of the two on the development
of social institutions and civil society are well documented.
In Africa, numerous issues also transect politics, law
and other disciplines though only a few attract rigorous
academic study. This research program attends to this
gap. For instance, using interdisciplinary methodologies
with a focus on the legal aspects of research questions,
our researchers will investigate and advance the debate
on important topics such as regional integration (especially
given the increasing prominence of sub-regional organizations
like ECOWAS and SADC, the demise of the OAU and the birth
of the African Union), elections and political processes,
civil society and governance, peace and human security,
corruption and the impact of multi-national corporations
on indigenous communities and governments in Africa.
